The New World taxa of the pantropical Chlidanotinae tribe Chlidanotini (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) are reviewed. Twenty seven species and two subspecies are described as new: Auratonota auriginea, A. badiaurea, A. clasmata, A. exoptata and A. tessellata (Brazil); A. paidosocia and A. spinivalva cubana (Cuba); A. cataponera, A. flora, A. foederata, A. monochroma, A. moronana, A. nugax, A. petalocrossa maldonada, A. splendida, A. stigmosa and A. virgata (Ecuador); A. effera, A. oxytenia, A. serotina and A. spinivalva spinivalva (Mexico); A. magnifica (Venezuela); Heppnerographa brasiliana and H. lapilla (Brazil); H. ardea, H. carchiana and H. ecualorica (Ecuador). Three new combinations are also established: Auratonota hyacinthina (Meyrick, 1911), A.... |

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic debilitating disease characterized by distinct autoimmune, inflammatory and fibrovascular components which lead to synovial proliferation and joint destruction. However, existing treatments specifically target only autoimmune and inflammatory components despite the fact that neovascularization of the inflamed synovium is a hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis. Angiogenesis may contribute to synovial growth, leukocyte recruitment and tissue remodeling, thus potentiating disease progression. Although no therapies currently target angiogenesis, several existing therapies have anti-angiogenic activity. Recent advances in anti-angiogenic strategies in oncology, including the identification of integrin <FONT... |

There is considerable interest in the determination of farmland values. Although alternative models exist, present value models have played a central role in recent studies of agricultural land markets. Alston (1986) uses a present value model to examine the effects of inflation and real growth in net rental income on farmland prices (see also Melichar, 1979). Present value models also underlie analysis of the dynamic behavior of farmland prices by Burt (1986); investigation of causality relations between farmland rents and prices by Phipps (1984); and analysis of the relationship between agricultural and nonagricultural land markets by Robison et al. (1985). |

With a simplified two-dimensionnal Atlantic Ocean model, we investigate the response of the deep ocean circulation to reconstructed sea surface salinity and temperature used as surface boundary conditions at two time slices: just before and during Heinrich event 4. In contrast to previous studies, we do not make any assumption about freshwater input. Our model results suggest that the recorded estimations of surface hydrological changes during an Heinrich event are able to induce a drastic slowdown, or even a collapse, of the overall Atlantic thermohaline circulation. This is, to some extent, consistent with records of the deep sea ventilation at these times. |

Partial backward integration is prevalent in many agricultural and natural resource processing industries. A strategic rationale for partial backward integration is developed for a dominant firm with a competitive fringe purchasing from competitive input suppliers. A partially backward integrated dominant firm potentially can increase profit through production efficiency gains and through a lower price for externally purchasing input. The optimal degree of backward integration results when the dominant firm's profit from exerting monopsony market power in the external spot market equals its profit from producing raw input internally, less the incremental cost of acquiring internal raw input production capacity. Comparative statics results are consistent... |

This paper summarises the development, structure and data sources of the Western Australian World Wool Model. The model is a comparative static, partial equilibrium model of the world wool market. The technique used for the model is applied general equilibrium (AGE) modelling. Western Australia is separated from the rest of Australia as a production region. A key feature of the model is that raw wool is broken down into 9 different qualities, which determine the end use of the wool. The construction of a database containing these wool qualities is detailed. Potential uses for the model are outlined, and results are compared and contrasted with earlier structural models of the world wool market. Finally, advantages and disadvantages of the approach taken... |
